After reading about it last year we couldn’t wait to get involved – and we’re very pleased that we did!  What an inspiring week it turned out to be…

On Tuesday night we hosted an Open House event at our Carnaby Street store – inviting over 100 curious customers (old and new) through our doors for a night of creativity.  With a ‘Pimp my Pigeon’ workshop hosted by our friends at Scout Editions, live portraits from Captain Smith Design, live tote bag printing, beers courtesy of Two Fingers Brewing plus talks from the WBTC team – the evening went off with a bang!  Thanks to everyone who joined us.

On Friday, WBTC founder Alice was invited to sit on a discussion panel entitled ‘Start Up Life’ where she was joined by fellow creative start up business leaders from Pizza Pilgrims, Pokit & The Dots.  An insightful and jam-packed session to close the festival.

As well as participating in the festival programme ourselves – WBTC team members also attended a number of sessions throughout the week – meeting the likes of inspirational business heavyweights Jo Malone MBE and Sir John Hegarty.

We couldn’t be more happy that Rugman – fresh from exhibiting his solo show at the Saatchi Gallery – agreed to live spray-paint the exterior of our new home at 46 Carnaby Street. The results of which are a show-stopping geometric design that our customers can’t stop taking photos of!

Utilising the WBTC window as well as the walls – the design features an alternative depiction of ‘Queen Lizzy’ with Rugman‘s matching art print in-store becoming a bestseller overnight.

Come and take a look for yourself! It’s even more eye-popping in real life.

Previous WBTC storefront artists include innovative East London-based graphic artist Camille Walala and emerging design duo The City Works.

In sophisticated surroundings we took our seats, quickly discovering we were amongst good company with the likes of John Lewis, London Science Museum, Oliver Bonas, Fenwicks, The Imperial War Museum and Paperchase all in the room – alongside a whole host of independent gift retailers from across the UK.

The industry acknowledgment of being shortlisted was a sufficiently big accolade for us in our inaugural year at the awards – so needless to say we were over the moon to hear our name read out and Alice called to the stage as we scooped the prize for Best Newcomer 2016!

A victory not just for our hard-working shop team but for all of the London-based artists, designers and makers in our creative community.
